An Exclusive Interview with Emily Bond

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our exclusive Emily Bond collection! Emily Bond is a celebrated British designer known for her beautifully hand-drawn textiles that effortlessly capture the charm and warmth of country life. Her signature style—rooted in tradition yet refreshingly modern—features everything from her beloved dachshund prints to understated, nature-inspired patterns that reflect a deep connection to the rural landscapes she calls home. Each design is more than just fabric; it’s a story of family, heritage, and Emily’s enduring love of animals.

In our interview, Emily opens up about her creative journey, the inspiration behind her signature prints, and how she built a brand that feels as timeless as the fabrics she designs.

How long have you been in the industry?

I started my business back in 2007, so it’s been 17 years now—though I honestly can’t believe it’s been that long!

What is the most rewarding part of the design process for you?

There have been so many rewarding moments over the years, but a few really stand out. Seeing my designs stocked in shops—especially in large retailers—was a huge milestone. I still get a little thrill when I walk past a display and spot my prints on the shelves. But beyond that, what touches me the most is the response from individual customers. When people send me photos of their homes with my fabrics used in their curtains, cushions, or upholstery, it’s incredibly moving.

What made you want to become a designer?

I’ve always had a creative streak and a real appreciation for beautiful, thoughtful design, but what truly inspired me to pursue it professionally were brands like Laura Ashley, Cath Kidston, and Emma Bridgewater. These incredible female entrepreneurs built such strong, recognisable identities around their passions, and I found that deeply inspiring.

What does a day in the life as a designer look like for you?

Well, with three children, my day always starts with the school run—getting everyone up, fed, and out the door! Once they’re off, I take the dogs for a walk through the countryside, rain or shine. It’s become a really important part of my routine; that time outdoors helps me clear my head and gather my thoughts for the day ahead. After that, I settle into my studio developing new design ideas

If you weren’t a designer what would you do?

I think I’d be a potter. I absolutely love working with clay—there’s something so grounding and therapeutic about it.

What would you say your interior style is?

I’d describe my interior style as eclectic. I love mixing different elements to create a space that feels warm, lived-in, and full of character. In our home, you’ll find old Persian rugs layered with my own fabric designs, cream wool sofas with velvet cushions, and my textiles on all the windows and doors.

We live in a very old cottage, so I like to lean into that sense of history and charm by filling the space with textures.“

Where do you design your fabrics, is there a particular place you like to be creative?

Most of my designing happens right at my kitchen table, here in my home. It’s my absolute favourite place to work—there’s something so comforting about being in a familiar, relaxed space with my dogs curled up at my feet.

What inspired the Somerset Collection?

The inspiration behind the Somerset Collection comes from home—specifically, the natural beauty of Somerset, where I grew up and now live. I feel incredibly fortunate to draw my design ideas from such a stunning part of the world.

What is your favourite fabric from the Somerset Collection?

I think my favourite has to be the woven stripes. While I absolutely adore prints, I’ve always wanted to create woven stripes, and I’m so thrilled with how they turned out. The quality is exceptional, and they drape beautifully as curtains. They also pair perfectly with my prints, velvets, and other textures—such a versatile and elegant addition to the collection. I’m genuinely proud of these stripes.

Anything exciting that you are working on at the moment?

Right now, I’m working on a seaside collection. I’m fortunate to spend holidays in Cornwall, and I want to capture the relaxed, natural beauty of that coastline in my next range.
