    Our plantation shutters come in 3 different styles, each offering its own balance of privacy, design & functionality:

    Full Height:

    Café Style:

    Tier On Tier:

    • Full Height: Covers the entire window from top to bottom for a smart, uniform look with excellent privacy and light control. A mid-rail can be added for extra strength and stability — and is sometimes required on taller shutters.
    • Café Style: Fitted only to the lower half of the window, giving you privacy where you need it while letting natural light flood in from above.
    • Tier-on-Tier: Shutters divided into separate sections that open independently of each other, giving you flexible control over light and privacy at different parts of the window.

    Louvre Width

    Louvres, or slats, are the horizontal blades you can tilt to control light, privacy, and airflow. The size you choose
    affects both style and function. Smaller 64 mm louvres have more blades per panel, which slightly reduces light
    and increases privacy. Larger louvres, like the 76 mm and 89 mm sizes, let in more natural light when open and
    give a clearer view outside. The 76 mm is becoming the popular choice, large enough to open up your view while
    still offering excellent privacy. As a general guide, choose smaller slats for a classic look and street-facing
    windows, and larger slats for a modern, open feel or bigger window spaces. All sizes work with every shutter
    style.

    • 64 mm: Works for any window size, popular for a classic style and more privacy.
    • 76 mm: Becoming the popular choice, ideal for medium to large windows and a balanced all-round option.
    • 89 mm: Best for very large windows or patio doors, letting in maximum light and opening up the view.

    Tilt Rod

    Standard:

    Standard Tilt Rod: A traditional front-facing rod positioned in the center of the shutters, allowing you to adjust the slats easily with a handle.

    Hidden:

    Hidden Tilt Rod: Discreetly fitted to the back of the slats, this option lets you tilt them by hand for a clean, uncluttered look.

    Panel Number

    The panel number describes how many shutter panels your window will have, and which way they will open. The options available depend on both the shutter style you’ve selected, and the sizes you have input. Here are some examples:

    • 2 Panel – Both Left: Two vertical panels that both fold and open to the left.
    • 3 Panel – 2 Left, 1 Right: Three panels in total, two folding left and one folding right.
    • 3 Panel – 1 Left, 2 Right: Three panels in total, one folding left and two folding right.

    The max width for a standard tilt rod with 1 panel is 800mm

    The max width for a hidden tilt rod with 1 panel is 600mm

    The max width for 2 panel is 1200mm

    The max width for 3 panel is 1800mm

    The max width for 4 panel is 2400mm

    Frame Style

    The frame is the structure that surrounds your shutters, holding the panels securely in place inside the window opening. It ensures stability, allows smooth operation, and gives the shutters a neat, finished look.

    L Frame:

    L Frame: A simple, square-edged frame fitted inside the recess to support the shutters. It gives a clean, minimal look and works best on windows that are fairly straight and even.

    Z Frame:

    Z Frame: A frame with a decorative lip that overlaps the wall around the recess. It not only supports the shutters but also hides uneven edges and gaps, creating a stylish trim finish.

    Mid Rail

    Midrail

    A midrail is a horizontal support inside a full height shutter panel. It is used when a panel exceeds 1700mm to add strength and let you tilt the slats (louvres) above and below the midrail independently. Midrails are 61 mm wide. To measure, start from the surface where the shutter will sit, either the floor or the window sill, and measure up to the centre of your preferred midrail position. Placement may vary by plus or minus 38 mm during manufacture to suit slat spacing and structural needs. Book a free appointment and our shutter experts will confirm the best midrail height on site.
